As you might have heard, Looking for a Job (work) is a full time Job.
It takes lot of patience to find a job you want. But if you are just looking for a work, it might not take that long.
If you are looking for a Job, there are few steps you need to keep in mind.
- Networking – This is number one option and easiest of all options available. It does not matter if you are an experienced professional or not, this tools works for both.
Networking takes long time to build but once you build and sustain it, it will provide fruits thru out your career.
Networking is a task of making sure, People remember you in a good way and also would like to work with you or associate with you. It is a reflection your People skills and personality.
Networking is an art and also a science. You need to make an effort to expand your network. Network can start in college or in your current position.
The common sense rule for networking is not being arrogant or rude to colleagues.
Other easy steps are joining a Professional organization or volunteering your time as needed in the community.
You start networking at your current work place and also expand to your social life.
You only tap into your network when needed, don’t over use your network.
Remember, to build a good network, it is not how good you are at your job but how good are you with People.
As a Professional, you network should also consist of good recruiters. They can keep you posted with current market conditions and any tempting offers. Take time to talk to them. In the long run, it will pay off.
Networking not only helps you grow professionally but would also open new opportunities for you, which you don’t know existed.
For example, Majority of the hires in a startup or a new venture consists of people they know and are comfortable.
A good place to start building network is Linkedin.com or any other social website.
All the above sounds like Common sense but you would be amazed how many of us lack common sense in our daily life.
- Job Boards – I didn’t have much luck with Job Boards. When you post your resume on the Board, you will be overwhelmed with Phone call but only 1% of the calls are relevant to your current job search.
